Located in the city of Joliet, this concrete encased beam bridge crosses Chicago Street near Washington Street.
Built in 1912, the bridge features four spans of concrete encased beam, set onto concrete and steel substructures. It is unknown if the bridge was encased in concrete at the time of construction or at a later date.
In addition, there are sections of brick exposed on the abutment of this bridge. Since the construction of this bridge likely dates after any major brick work would've been done, it is possible it was part of a building foundation.
Structures like these were common for grade separations, as they were easy to construct and were fairly cheap. The only major work done to this bridge was two tracks were replaced with new steel stringer spans. The only active track on the bridge uses the new portion.
Overall, the bridge appears to be in fair condition. It appears to be mostly free of significant deterioration.

The author has ranked this bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design.
